Overview
The Xaar 502 GS15 O (P/N XP50200002) is Xaar’s oil-based printhead for wide-format graphics and coding & marking, built on the PrecisionPlus® architecture that succeeded the Hybrid Side Shooter® design. Its 500 active nozzles in a single row deliver 15–75 pL greyscale drops across a 70.5 mm print swathe at 180 npi. Because PrecisionPlus flips the PZT support onto its edge, the assembly gains stiffness in the Z axis — so drop formation stays uniform from the first nozzle to the last when several heads are mounted side by side in a print bar. A C&M nozzle guard sits flush to the actuator sides so ink drains away in skycraper mode, and a last-chance inlet filter keeps particles, debris and air bubbles out of the nozzle plate.
Key Features
• 500 active nozzles in one row, 70.5 mm print swathe at 180 npi (141.1 µm pitch, 47 µm stagger)
• Variable drop size 15–75 pL across up to 6 greyscale levels — solid fills and clean graphics in a single pass
• PrecisionPlus® architecture: PZT support flipped onto its edge for greater Z-axis stiffness and more uniform drop formation across the swathe
• C&M (coding & marking) nozzle guard set flush to the actuator sides, letting ink drain away in skycraper mode
• Last-chance inlet filter blocks particles, debris and air bubbles on the way in
• Vacuum (gravity) fed ink system with 4 mm hose barb inlet / outlet
• 7.2 kHz typical firing frequency at max DPD, 7 m/s drop velocity
• Slim 104 × 17 × 113 mm body at 208 g dry for tight print-bar integration
• Direct replacement path for the discontinued Xaar 500/80 (Proton 35 pL) via an ICM module and a minor ink-system change
Typical Applications
Large-format exterior banners and signage • Indoor point-of-sale graphics • Secondary and primary packaging coding • Barcodes, QR codes, batch numbers and expiry dates • Direct product and carton marking • Oil-based wide-format graphics production

Compatible Printers & Systems
Oil-based wide-format printers and coding & marking systems built on Xaar 500/80 or 502 print bars, and OEM print engines that need a 500-nozzle 180 npi oil head over a 70.5 mm swathe. Migrating from the discontinued Xaar 500/80 (Proton 35 pL) requires an ICM (Interface Connection Module) loaded with a Xaar waveform, plus a small ink-system change — the Xaar 500 had four ink feeds while the 502 has one. Each head is supplied in the original Xaar carton, serial-numbered and QC tested. Contact us for bulk pricing, lead time and a free compatibility check for your printer model.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Xaar 502 GS15 O and the 502 GS15 OR?
Both are oil-based 500-nozzle heads with 15–75 pL drops over a 70.5 mm swathe. The GS15 O (XP50200002) supports TF Technology in Pulsed mode, so ink is recirculated while the head is not jetting — it clears air bubbles, allows nozzle self-recovery and extends maintenance cycles. The GS15 OR (XP50200003) adds High Flow mode for continuous high-speed flow past the nozzles. If your ink settles easily or your system needs constant recirculation, choose the OR variant.
Does the Xaar 502 GS15 O run UV or solvent inks?
No — Xaar lists the ink type for this part as oil-based. If your production runs on UV, solvent or aqueous inks, send us your ink set and printer model and we will confirm which 502 or 1003 variant matches before you order.
Can it replace my existing Xaar 500/80 printheads?
Yes, with an ICM module and a small ink-system modification. The ICM must have a Xaar-supplied waveform loaded, and because the Xaar 500 had four ink feeds while the 502 has one, the ink system usually needs adapting. Our engineers can walk you through the migration.
Is this printhead original?
Yes. Every unit we ship is a genuine Xaar printhead, factory sealed, individually serial-numbered and QC tested before dispatch.
